B. What is a Covered Building and why should I purchase an Accu-Steel Cover Building?

A Cover Building is a rigid framework with a fabric cover. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings has advanced this simple premise into an Engineered Hot Dip Galvanized Truss System with UV Stable Woven Polyethylene Fabrics and an Accu-Keder Cover Attachment System for individual weatherproof covers. Not to mention, every design option available to a conventional building.

You Should Purchase an Accu-Steel Cover Building because of our time-tested blend of craftsmanship, conservative design principles, and innovative technologies that create a structure and environment unlike anything on the market today.

C. What craftsmanship, conservative design principles, and innovative products set Accu-Steel Cover Buildings apart in the market place?

Craftsmanship
The attention to detail and years of experience the dedicated employees of Accu-Steel Cover Buildings bring to each of their duties is the driving force behind the best Fabric Covered Building available at any price.

Conservative Design Principles
Accu-Steel Cover Buildings design and manufacture every Fabric Covered Building to the highest engineering standard: human occupancy. There are NO engineering reductions taken for building purpose or profile.

Innovative Products
Accu-Steel Cover Buildings is the leader with 14 OZ/YD2 Accu-Fabric that utilizes the Accu-Keder Cover Attachment System. Accu-Keder track on every truss allows for independent keder covers in each building bay for ground level maintenance, effortless expansion options, and simple cover replacement. Accu-Steel Cover Building’s steel products are Hot Dip Galvanized after manufacturing to provide a continuous coating of protective zinc on both the inside and outside of the truss. Accu-Steel Cover Building’s 15-year Warranty is available upfront and includes both the Fabric Cover and Truss System.

D. What is the Environment like inside an Accu-Steel Cover Building?

Unlike any other type of structure you have ever been inside. Natural light transmitting through the Accu-Fabric is bright and uniform even on cloudy days. Our Cover Buildings have excellent air quality due to the Arch Design that provides massive volume capacity. Sharp sounds are softened with the Accu-Fabric Cover. The rain, snow and wind are kept outside with the weatherproof 14 OZ/YD2 Cover. The Accu-Fabric provides shade from the summer sun and a hint of warmth in winter. During the night, very little artificial light is needed to operate safely and hardly a drop of condensation forms on the fabric. Our building profile provides excellent air volume and air quality. The Accu-Fabric durability and translucently establishes Accu-Steel Cover Buildings in a class all by itself.

E. How are Accu-Steel Cover Buildings Designed? Are Engineered Sealed Prints available?

A licensed engineer using the International Building Code (IBC) designs Accu-Steel Cover Buildings for human occupancy with an importance factor 1.0. The other design criteria are wind and snow loading or seismic activity per your location and application loading such as material handling equipment. A second independent engineer, licensed in the state of building use, provides the Engineering Seal on Accu-Steel Cover Building Prints. This engineer provides proof that the correct loading for the building location and purpose were used to calculate the base plate reactions at the foundation. This procedure is necessary to ensure proper foundation design and to obtain building permits and insurance on the cover building.

F. What is the number one thing NOT to do when purchasing any Building?

Do NOT purchase any building until you have determined the building was designed by a licensed engineer and the building supplier can provide the sealed set of building plans needed to obtain a building permit, foundation design, and future insurance. Many other companies have only one rafter design that somehow magically always meet the customer’s design requirements. In most cases the competition must take engineering reductions in loading based on use or the shape of the building to meet code requirements. Do not be fooled by a photocopied engineer’s seal that does not provide loading reactions or location information for a truss. This lack of information and detail can lead to delayed permitting, increased costs for engineering seals after the fact, inefficient foundation designs, inability to insure the structure or contents once installed, and most importantly structural failures.

G. What is Hot Dip Galvanizing and why is Hot Dip Galvanizing better than competitor’s pre-galvanized or “shielded” products?

Hot Dip Galvanizing involves cleaning the fabricated steel product and soaking it in a flux solution that improves the adhesion between the steel and zinc, then lowering the steel into a vat of 840o molten zinc, and finally cleaning and inspecting the new Hot Dip Galvanized product. The Hot Dip Galvanized process provides a continuous uniform coating of zinc on all surfaces of the steel product. Accu-Steel Cover Building’s steel products are Hot Dip Galvanized to ASTM A-123 standards that call for a thickness of 3.9 mils of zinc on all surfaces. Hot Dip Galvanizing allows Accu-Steel Cover Buildings to be the leader in the storage of corrosive product like de-icing materials, road salt, fertilizer, and other caustic materials.

Hot Dip Galvanized versus pre-galvanized or “shielded” product

Hot Dip Galvanizing is a better coating than the competitor’s pre-galvanized or “shielded” products because Hot Dip Galvanizing provides 3 times more zinc that is uniformly applied to all steel surfaces. Hot Dip Galvanizing provides 3.9 mils of zinc on all surfaces, inside and outside, compared to the competitor’s pre-galvanized or “shielded” products that have less than 1 mil of zinc on the outside only and no protection on the inside of the product. When competitors weld to pre-galvanized or “shielded” products, the welding damages or burns the outside zinc while creating a weld burn on the unprotected inside of the product. Competitors sometimes choose to replace the outside zinc, but have no way to protect the inside weld area from corrosion. Zinc protects steel by reacting with the environment instead of the steel. The more zinc available to protect the product, the longer the product will last, especially in a corrosive environment.

H. Do I need a Hot Dip Galvanized Cover Building if I am not going to store corrosive material?

Yes you do. Hot Dip Galvanizing is the best return on investment for protecting steel products. When a Hot Dip Galvanized product is scratched or damaged the surrounding zinc still protects the bare steel. Hot Dip Galvanizing reassures customers that will not be storing corrosive products that their Accu-Steel Cover Building’s steel framework will have an extremely long service life compared to competitor’s pre-galvanized or painted products. When the fabric on your Accu-Steel Cover Building needs to be replaced in the future, the Hot Dip Galvanized framework will be worth re-covering.

I. What kind of foundation do I need for an Accu-Steel Cover Building?

Accu-Steel Cover Buildings will work with the customer to determine the best foundation based on the use and location of the building. The Accu-Steel Bar Truss Series 42’-76’ is pre-engineered to be placed on portable Pre-Cast Concrete Blocks or Highway Barriers. This is the most versatile, portable and cost effective foundation option offered by Accu-Steel Cover Buildings. Certain Accu-Steel Cover Buildings can be placed on Pre-Cast Concrete “L” or “T” Panels, please contact Accu-Steel Cover Buildings for this option. Accu-Steel Cover Building will supply the Cover Building Reactions at the Base Plates to the customer’s engineer to design a foundation to meet the needs of the project and location. Other Accu-Steel Cover Building Foundation options are Cast in Place Concrete, Ground Anchors, and Steel “W” Beam Posts. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings that store bunk material like grain or fertilizer utilize building liners that increase the storage capacity without adding additional height or cost to the foundation.

J. Can I expand or relocate my Accu-Steel Cover Building?

Yes you can expand and relocate an Accu-Steel Cover Building. Accu-Keder Cover Attachment System permits easy expansion by installing the number of Rafters for the new required length and simply pulling new individual keder covers to extend your Accu-Steel Cover Building. The versatility of an Accu-Steel Cover Building allows for both fast installations and easy relocation. If a portable pre-cast concrete foundation was chosen, simply reverse the building process and your engineered Cover Building is on the move in no time without having to leave costly foundations behind. This is a great asset when dealing with leased property or plant layout changes.

K. Does Accu-Steel Cover Buildings manufacture Cover Buildings, outsource the production, or re-sell someone else’s product?

Accu-Steel manufactures Cover Buildings including the fabric covers in one location: Templeton, Iowa. Accu-Steel also distributes the Cover Building from this location across the country. Accu-Steel does not outsource production to local fabrication companies in the customer’s geographical area. Although this may save on transportation, building quality and accountability can suffer. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings is successful due to experienced employees and proper manufacturing equipment; neither of these can be easily duplicated in an outsourced manufacturing relationship. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings is responsible for your Cover Building from initial contact to completion.

L. Are Accu-Steel Cover Buildings an environmentally responsible structure?

Yes, Accu-Steel Cover Buildings are an environmentally responsible choice.

100% of the material that makes up an Accu-Steel Cover Building can be recycled. The steel is produced from recycled scrap iron. The Accu-Fabric is manufactured from virgin material due to quality requirements, but is highly sought after by plastic recyclers. Comparing a Fabric Covered Building to an asphalt shingle roof, the Cover Building will take substantially less labor, less material cost, and nothing to the landfill compared to an asphalt roof.

M. What are the financial advantages and purchase options for an Accu-Steel Cover Building?

Financial Advantages
Accu-Steel Cover Buildings provide engineered storage at a low initial cost compared to traditional construction. This allows for a higher and quicker return on investment. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings have a lower energy usage compared to traditional structures because of the natural light transmitted through the Accu-Fabric Covers. The added benefit of portable foundations allows resale and relocation options. There may be accelerated depreciation options that lower the long-term ownership cost of an Accu-Steel Cover Building. When the cover needs replaced, the longer life Hot Dip Galvanized Truss System will prove advantageous because you simply purchase the latest fabric option and install it on your existing frame, instead of purchasing an entirely new Cover Building. Quality Accu-Steel Cover Building products continue to drive down the cost of ownership, allowing access to the latest technology at a fraction of future prices.

Purchase Options
Accu-Steel allows the customer to work direct with a variety of leasing institutions. This simplifies the process and provides the customer the very best value possible. Please visit the Leasing Page on our website for more information. We also accept Visa and MasterCard for your convenience.

N. Are Accu-Steel Cover Buildings considered permanent or temporary structures?

Accu-Steel Cover Buildings are designed to be permanent structures that have the flexibility to economically perform temporary storage needs also. The Accu-Steel Bar Truss Series 42’-76’ is pre-engineered to be placed on portable Pre-Cast Concrete Blocks or Highway Barriers. This is the most versatile, portable and cost effective foundation option for temporary storage offered by Accu-Steel Cover Buildings. Our Cover Buildings meet the requirements for obtaining a conventional or temporary building permit.

O. What happens if a Cover is damaged on an Accu-Steel Cover Building?

Accu-Steel’s field service personnel can repair a majority of damage that may occur to the Fabric Covers. If the damage cannot be repaired, Accu-Steel Cover Buildings are designed with an Accu-Keder Track Attachment System with an individual cover in each rafter bay so that only the cover with the damage must be replaced. The Accu-Keder System keeps replacement cost low by not having to replace the entire cover like you would on a traditional cover building with one cover. Accu-Steel provides a comprehensive 15 warranty on both the Fabric and Truss System. This 15-year Warranty* protects the customer, but is not a replacement for the owner’s building insurance. * See Warranty for Details.

R. Who performs the foundation construction and building installation on my Accu-Steel Cover Building?

Depending on the design and type of the foundation, the foundation is typically installed by a contractor close to the location of the Cover Building project. Once the foundation is completed and any critical dimensions are confirmed, the customer has three options. The first is to have an authorized Accu-Steel Cover Building Installation Crew install the Cover Building. The second option is for the customer to be responsible for the Cover Building installation. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings provides comprehensive install plans and customer service to support the Cover Building install. The customer install option requires pictures to be sent to Accu-Steel Cover Buildings of the completed Cover Building to verify the installation can be warranted. The last and most effective option is to have Accu-Steel send an Installation Representative to work with the customer’s contractor to complete the building. The Accu-Steel Installation Representative will provide the expertise for the local contractor to efficiently install the Accu-Steel Cover Building. The Accu-Steel Installation Representative is the most economical Accu-Steel Cover Building installation option.

S. What is the difference between an arch designed Accu-Steel Cover Building and a competition designed flat roof and gable peak building?

Accu-Steel Cover Buildings are engineered with time tested compressive arch design technology. This arch design is the most efficient design to transfer building loads to the foundation and maintain equal cover tension while requiring the least amount of material. The main downfall of the competitors’ flat roof and gable peak cover building design appears when a fabric is stretched over a flat plane without a curve or shape to support the fabric; the fabric will wrinkle or move in the wind. This type of movement will lead to premature cover failure. Experiment for yourself, take a piece of paper outside in the wind and try to stretch it flat between your hands then try to stretch it over your leg. When the paper is pulled around your leg or stretched in a supportive arch it has equal tension in the paper and does not wrinkle or move in the wind. The other advantage to an arch design is that the cover building has excellent inside sidewall clearance without excessive center peak heights. This i s important to maintain usable inside clearance while minimizing a visual impact on the environment.

Rafter Truss Depth
Accu-Steel Cover Buildings are wider between the cords compared to the competition because Accu-Steel does not take reductions in snow loading for the slick surface of the cover material, since certain snow conditions will stick to the cover material. The other main reason Accu-Steel Cover Buildings have a deeper Truss is because no design reduction is applied on the cover building’s roof peak angle. To use this reduction, a building’s roofline must meet a single point. The competition’s roofline meets at a radiuses corner that is flatter than the Accu-Steel Cover Building’s peak. The flatter the Cover Building peak, the more snow loading the building will receive. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings are designed with the correct snow loading that represents actual conditions and allows Accu-Steel Cover Buildings to outperform the competition.

T. Why does Accu-Steel Cover Buildings use Square Tubing in the Truss Rafters instead of Round Tubing?

Accu-Steel Cover Buildings originally used square tubing instead of round tubing because when Accu-Steel was using mono or one-piece cover the square tubing gave more support to the cover than round tubing. Now that Accu-Steel is using individual keder covers instead of large one-piece covers, Accu-Steel continues to manufactures the Truss Rafter from Square Tubing because Square Tubing is approximately 35% stronger than round. The strength comes from the four corners in the Square Tubing and the increased surface area in Square Tubing compared to round tubing of the same size. The Accu-Steel Square Tube Rafters accommodate Rafter Inserts that pin the Rafters together instead of flange bolting. This Rafter Insert is more efficient in transferring building loads into the next Rafter and ultimately into the foundation than the flange bolting method.

U. What is Accu-Fabric, what colors are available, and how long will the Accu-Fabric Covers last before I will need to replace the Covers?

Accu-Fabric is Woven Polyethylene material that is produced from two sheets of low-density polyethylene extruded over a layer of high-density woven polyethylene. All three layers have been treated with the latest in Ultra-Violet (UV) stabilizers and can be combined with a Fire Resistance (FR) treatment to provide excellent protection and longevity for your Accu-Steel Cover Building. Since Accu-Fabric is unique to Accu-Steel Cover Building the colors choices are unique also. Choices include: White, Desert Tan, Barn Red, Forest Green, and Navy Blue. Colors are listed in descending order of greatest light translucency and all colors have a bright white inside finish.

The covers on an Accu-Steel Cover Building will last approximately 15 to 20 years. There are 3 main reasons why a cover may need replaced. The first reason is the Cover Building was never maintained and the cover became loose: This is why the Accu-Keder Cover Attachment System was developed. The Accu-Keder allows for maintenance at ground level, not up in the building where most customers cannot easily or safely reach. And each bay has a smaller independent cover, not one large single piece of fabric that is more difficult to maintain. The second reason is the Ultra Violet (UV) radiation breaks down the Woven Polyethylene material: This is why Accu-Fabrics are manufactured with 14 OZ/YD2 material instead of the industry standard 12 OZ/YD2. The heavier the material, the longer it takes the UV to break it down. The amount of UV radiation depends on two main factors: the latitude and the elevation of the Cover Building. The nearer to the equator and the more above sea level a building is located the greater the UV radiation. Depending on maintenance and location of the Cover Building, an Accu-Fabric Cover should last 15 to 20 years and a Fire Resistant (FR) Accu-Fabric should last 10 to15 years. The third reason is the Cover Building is designed with long unsupported flat roof sections with three radius corners; the cover is over tightened in the three radius corners to keep the cover tight in the flat roof section. When the cover is over tightened above 35 pound per square inch (psi), the fabric is subject to early UV degradation due to openings in the high-density polyethylene weave. The Accu-Steel Keder Cover Attachment System is designed to maintain constant tension in the Cover Building to provide the longest fabric life cycles possible.

V. What type of maintenance is required on my Accu-Steel Cover Building?

Cover Buildings require basic maintenance like any building type. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings are designed for easy ground level maintenance. All manufactured steel components are Hot Dip Galvanized, all but eliminating corrosion or maintenance on the framework. Accu-Steel publishes comprehensive preventive maintenance recommendations that must be followed for warranty coverage. Please visit the Maintenance Page on our website for more information.

W. Why is Accu-Steel Cover Buildings the leader in de-icing materials and road salt storage?

Accu-Steel Cover Buildings is the leader in de-icing material and road salt storage because Accu-Steel was not satisfied delivering Cover Buildings like everyone else. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings recognized opportunities in product design that would increase the productivity for Public Safety officials. The Hot Dip Galvanized Finish provides a continuous uniform coating of zinc that protects the steel components from oxidation in the corrosive environment. Hot Dip Galvanizing on manufactured steel components increases longevity and lowers operating costs for the public sectors. Accu-Fabrics with the Keder Track Attachment System allow for simple ground level maintenance, relocation of the structure if a yard location changes, and an individual 14 OZ/YD2 cover in each bay. Our Buildings provide the inside clearance required for liner panels (which increase storage capacities) and also allow room for an end dump trailer to unload product inside, while keeping the center height low enough to meet co de and not create a focus point in the urban landscape. Accu-Steel provides a Specification for bidding a generic Cover Building. These specifications are not unique to an Accu-Steel Cover Building; any competitor with a desire to produce a quality product can meet these requirements. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings will not deviate from quality standards to attempt to win a bid. Experience has shown once a customer has owned an Accu-Steel Cover Building, the customer is motivated to ensure all their future Cover Building projects match the quality of an Accu-Steel Cover Building.

X. What is the difference between an Accu-Steel Cattle Building and the competition’s cattle hoop?

The differences between an Accu-Steel Cattle Building and the competition are significant and numerous.

First of all, an Accu-Steel Cattle Building is a 46’ wide Cover Building designed specifically for Cattle production, this in not a hog hoop building with two extra side boards and a narrow opening over a wood bunk.

Size: The Accu-Steel Cattle Building is 44’ inside the Steel H Beam Foundation; the competition is less than 36’ wide on the inside. The Accu-Steel Cattle Building’s extra width allows for a true 40 sq. ft. plus animal space per foot of building. The competition must count a 3’ eave that is not accessible to the cattle nor does it protect the bunk line and is less than 40 sq. ft. per animal.

Foundation:
An Accu-Steel Cattle Building is designed on a steel H beam foundation that can be installed on existing bunk lines or new feedlot construction. The steel H beam foundation can be adjusted to the existing ground slope of the customer’s feed yard location. The steel H beam foundation is fully engineered to meet the requirements for NRCS and USDA’s Environmental Quality Incentive Program (E.Q.I.P.) The steel H beam has an excellent “pocket” between the posts to pour a concrete wall or attach fencing and gating. The competition has a wood foundation that is not pre-engineered for E.Q.I.P. Wood sidewalls accomplish 3 things: rot, break off, and cut down on the airflow and air quality for the cattle. The wood sidewalls cost less to supply to a building site than a steel H beam foundation, but require more labor to install and more money to engineer.

Cover Fabric:
Accu-Steel Cattle Buildings utilize 14 OZ/YD2 Accu-Fabric in an individual keder cover per building bay, this allows for easy ground level maintenance or replacement if damage occurs. The competition uses a 10 or 12 OZ/YD2 fabric that is a one-piece cover that needs maintained up in the building and if there is a problem the competition’s one piece cover is jeopardized.

Cover Attachment:
The Accu-Steel Keder Cover Attachment System terminates the cover on the eave so water does not flow around the eave and back into the bunks or building. There are two eaves standard on an Accu-Steel Cattle Building; the bunk eave is over 5’ wide to protection the bunk and 11’ tall to provide clearance when feeding. The curtain eave is over 2’ wide and 11’ tall and is opposite the bunk eave; this eave provides an attachment area for a curtain and pushes water away from the Cover Building.

Design
The Accu-Steel Cattle Building is an Engineered Hot Dip Galvanized Truss, not an un-engineered painted single pipe hoop. The competition sells a kit for the customer to be 100% responsible for the install of the complete cover building. Accu-Steel has designed the H Beam Post to be easily installed by the customer or the customer’s contractor, and then an authorized Accu-Steel Cover Building Installation Crew will construct the Cover Building. This process with the customer installing the H Beam Posts and Accu-Steel installing the cover building insures proper concrete curing on the posts and a properly installed cover building that meets all of the warranty requirements.

Choice:
Accu-Steel concentrates on delivering high quality Cover Buildings that meets the customer’s demands for cattle feeding. There are other high quality suppliers and installers of fencing, bunks, waterers, gates, and curtains. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings does not bundle complete packages because it limits the choice of the cattle feeder.

Accu-Steel Cattle Buildings will keep cattle cool in the summer, dry year around, manage the cattle’s environment from manure to air quality, increase daily gains, and generate more dollars on the bottom line.

Y. Why are Accu-Steel Cover Buildings the right choice for grain and fertilizer storage?

Accu-Steel Grain & Fertilizer Buildings are the right choice because of the clear span versatility and low capital investment. Accu-Steel Grain & Fertilizer Buildings provide inside sidewall clearance for equipment or building liners without the unnecessary building peak height when installed on a wall foundation. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings will increase storage capacity and reduce cost per bushel or ton. An Accu-Steel Cover Building allows for access to grain or fertilizer anytime of the year since it is in a building not an outside pile. When bulk products are not being stored in the building, the cover building becomes excellent machinery storage or warehousing.

All Accu-Steel Cover Buildings encompass the same quality standards, but these standards stand out in Grain & Fertilizer Storage. The Hot Dip Galvanized Finish provides a continuous uniform coating of zinc that protects the steel components from oxidation in a corrosive environment such as fertilizer storage. The Hot Dip Galvanized Finish allows Grain in the Cover Building one year and Fertilizer the next; changing with the customer’s needs without worrying about the structure’s durability. Accu-Fabrics with the Keder Track Attachment System allow for simple ground level maintenance, expansion or relocation of the structure if storage needs change, and an individual 14 OZ/YD2 cover in each bay.

Grain Storage

Accu-Steel Grain Buildings are superior to outside grain piles for several reasons. Accu-Steel Grain Buildings are the lowest cost solution and provide the most flexibility for year round licensed grain warehousing when compared to vertical or outside storage. The Accu-Steel Grain Building creates an air space between the grain and the underneath of the cover. This allows for real air movement in the grain pile, instead of running fans that just hold down the tarp instead of protecting the grain quality. There is no back-up power generation required with a Cover Building to keep the tarp on the pile if the electricity fails. In an Accu-Steel Grain Building, it is simpler to monitor the condition of the grain. If the grain becomes out of condition in a Cover Building, the manager can plan ahead instead of removing a tarp on an outside pile and finding a surprise.

Accu-Steel Cover Buildings provide economical old crop storage that allows higher cost vertical storage to handle the incoming new crop. This type of grain storage allows a feed mill to have a quality source of grain during the harvest season that does not affect flow of the incoming new crop. When grain is ready to be taken out of the Cover Building, it can be picked up in a controlled environment with minimal equipment and labor. Compare this to an outside grain pile when the tarp is removed and it is becomes a scramble to recover millions of bushels of grain as quick as possible to avoid weather damage. Depending on the service life of an outside grain tarp, usually one year, an Accu-Steel Grain Building will pay for itself in labor savings and product flexibility.

Accu-Steel Grain Buildings are the only grain storage option that offers licensed year round warehousing, optional fertilizer storage, optional machinery storage, market timing flexibility, and excellent grain quality. The last and most important, an Accu-Steel Cover Buildings will remain productive and useful in a year when outside storage may not be required due to size or marketing of the crop.
