  25. What are the little things that set Accu-Steel apart from other building suppliers?
1. Why should I purchase an Accu-Steel Cover Building?
When you start with an Accu-Steel Cover Building you know you are starting with an engineered building, built with the best materials, backed by the best warranty, and priced to be the best value on the market. You can add any option to an Accu-Steel Cover Building that you can with a conventional building. Your initial investment is less with an Accu-Steel Cover Building, which can allow a greater return on your money sooner.
2. What sizes do Accu-Steel Cover Buildings come in?

Accu-Steel Cover Buildings come in 17 different standard sizes from 22’- 188’ in clear span widths. Accu-Steel can also design a cover building to fit your specific needs. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings can be constructed to any length and placed on almost any surface, even a site that slopes.

3. Why is Hot Dipped Galvanizing a better coating than “shielding” products?
A Hot Dip Galvanized finish is better because the zinc is applied after the manufacturing process is completed. Accu-Steel parts have a 3.9-millimeter plating of zinc on the outside, inside, and over the completed welds. This is three times more zinc than “shielding” products; the amount of zinc is directly related to corrosion resistance of a part. “Shielding” products come pre-coated with zinc on the outside and paint on the inside. Both are burned away at welding locations. Some companies try to replace the zinc with gray paint over the welds; this rarely keeps red rust from forming. They can’t address the burned paint on the inside where corrosion starts. Ask the competition why they only care about the rust that can be seen and not the corrosion on the inside that can lead to failures. Accu-Steel products are Hot Dipped Galvanized to ASTM-A-123 Standards, which will give you years of maintenance free service and add value to your purchase.
4. What does it mean to be “Designed for Hot Dip Galvanizing”?
Accu-Steel products are Engineered to be Hot Dip Galvanized. This means building components are manufactured with venting holes sized and located for optimum zinc flow through and zinc protection once the Hot Dip Galvanizing is completed. Our competition “designs” for hot dip by just cut holes with a grinder or torch to vent already welded tubing. This improper venting does not allow correct flow though, this leads to early corrosion and depending on where the cuts were made may weaken the truss structure. This is an excellent difference in quality and attitude between Accu-Steel Cover Buildings and others.
5. Can I customize my Accu-Steel Cover Building?
Yes you can. Accu-Steel prides itself on finding innovative solutions that solve our customer’s problems and keep them within their budget. You can add any option to an Accu-Steel Cover Building that you can with a conventional building; your initial investment is less with an Accu-Steel Cover Building.
6. What kind of foundation do I need for an Accu-Steel Cover Building?
Accu-Steel Inc. will work with you to determine the best foundation for your Accu-Steel Cover Building. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings 76’ Bar Truss and under can be placed on Portable Pre-Cast Concrete Barriers. Portable Pre-Cast Concrete Barriers provide vertical sidewalls, quick installations and relocation while maintaining an engineered structure. Accu-Steel Building Crews have experience with ground anchors, Portable Pre-Cast barriers, and cast in place concrete piers.
7. Can I relocate my Accu-Steel Cover Building?
Yes you can. The versatility of an Accu-Steel Cover Building that allows for fast installations also allows for easy relocation. Simply by reversing the build process, if you have chosen a portable pre-cast concrete foundation, you can have your engineered building on the move in no time without having to leave costly foundation components behind. This is a great asset when dealing with rented or leased property.
8. Can I get an Engineering Stamp for an Accu-Steel Cover Building?
Yes you can. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings are independently designed by a licensed professional engineer to meet the International Building Code (IBC), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the Uniform Building Code (UBC) in your geographical location. Any building is only as good as the foundation that it is placed upon; Accu-Steel can assist you in foundation engineering also. Once the proper building, options and foundations are decided upon, Accu-Steel can offer complete installation on time and in budget.
9. What makes an Engineering Stamp on an Accu-Steel Cover Building Unique?
Accu-Steel Inc. can supply an Engineer’s Wet Seal on the installation drawings that include the customers name, location, and base plate reactions. When the competition supplies proof of “engineered” buildings, many times it is a copied picture of a single truss with a copied engineer's stamp. This information tells the customer almost nothing about the product being supplied. If the stamped or sealed prints do not have the name and location of the project and a signature of an licensed professional engineer in the state the building is being used, the information is almost useless in obtaining building permits and providing proof you are purchasing an engineered structure for insurance reasons. The Engineering Stamp on Accu-Steel prints provides proof your complete building including base plates, purlins, and end walls, at the elevation of your foundation in your location has been reviewed by licensed professional engineer of record for your state.
10. Why does Accu-Steel Cover Buildings offer so many different Rafter Centers?
Accu-Steel Cover Buildings Rafters are designed and manufactured to allow the rafter centers to be adjusted to meet the exact loading required in your location. When a company designs a building with only one rafter center length, they can only sell one loading at one price. A customer of our competition may be paying for more loading in a building than they need or they may be paying for a product that is not engineered for their location. In either instance, Accu-Steel Cover Buildings can provide value and strength through engineering that the competition cannot provide.
11. What are Accu-Steel Cover Buildings made of?

The Truss – Accu-Steel uses the highest quality domestically produced steel square tubing in all of the truss buildings that Accu-Steel manufactures. Square tubing is 20% stronger than the competition’s round tubing. Once the truss rafter and metal components are finished in the manufacturing plant they are taken off site to be Hot Dipped Galvanized. Hot Dipped Galvanizing gives Accu-Steel products three times the zinc protection than “shielded” products.

The Cover – Accu-Steel’s covers are produced from woven polyethylene fabric. Accu-Steel covers feature 5 layers of polyethylene that provide unequaled strength to weight ratio and excellent puncture and tear resistance. Accu-Steel’s covers have a limitied amount of maintenance once in place. With the latest in ultra-violet stabilizing, the covers will outlast most commercial shingles. Accu-Steel Cover Buildings also have the option of utilizing poly-vinyl-chloride or PVC covers.

16. What is a Woven Polyethylene Fabric?
Woven Polyethylene Fabric is a material that is produced from three sheets of low-density polyethylene extruded over two layers of high-density woven polyethylene. All five layers have been treated with the latest in Ultra-Violet (UV) stabilizers and can be combined with a Fire Resistance (FR) treatment to provide excellent protection and longevity in your Accu-Steel Cover Building.
17. How heavy are the Covers and can I get the Cover in Different Colors?
Accu-Steel can offers Woven Polyethylene Fabric in a weight of 14 oz. There are many Woven Polyethylene Fabric colors to choose from including clear greenhouse fabric and blackout fabric. The poly-vinyl-chloride or PVC covers come in weights from 18 oz. to 32 oz. There are many colors to choose from in the PVC fabric option; your Accu-Steel Factory Representative can help you decide on the right weight and color of fabric for your application.
18. What happens if the cover becomes damaged for any reason?
You are covered; Accu-Steel provides a cold patch repair kit from the original supplier of the Woven Polyethylene Fabric with every purchase. This patch is specially designed to bond with the Woven Polyethylene Fabric for a weather tight repair that is ultra-violet stable. If the cover is unable to be repaired by the cold patch, then Accu-Steel’s has standard 10-year warranty. First three years is covered at 100%, the next seven years has pro-rated, see warranty for details. There is an extended warranty program available from Accu-Steel that can cover the complete building for up to 20 years. Please check with your Accu-Steel Factory Representative for details.
19. What is the environment like inside an Accu-Steel Cover Building?
The environment inside an Accu-Steel Cover Building is unique from other types of building systems because the cover absorbs sound for a quieter interior and allows sunlight in the building. The clear span design height provides excellent air quality. Another benefit of an Accu-Steel Cover Building is that university studies have shown that the temperature inside a cover building is 10 – 15 degrees warmer in winter and 10 – 15 degrees cooler in summer than the outside temperature. This makes an Accu-Steel Cover Building the perfect answer in any climate or situation.
20. Do I need a building permit to construct an Accu-Steel Cover Building?
Each instance is unique to the local permitting process; in most instances an agricultural building does not need a building permit. An Accu-Steel Factory Representative can assist you in this process by providing information to obtain a building permit. In most cases this is done at no additional charge.
21. What are the end walls made from and are they engineered?
The end walls on an Accu-Steel Cover Building are made from galvanized cold-formed channel or rectangular structural tubing. This is the same product that is used in the metal building industry. This allows Accu-Steel Cover Building end walls to be completely engineered and ready for any type of commercial door, ventilation system, HVAC, or other end wall option.
22. What makes Accu-Steel Gather Doors different from other types of doors?
Accu-Steel Gather Doors are different from other types of gather doors for three main reasons. The track that Accu-Steel manufactures is designed in such a way that the more wind force there is on the door the tighter the pipe is “locked” into the track. The track is designed to work in a negative pressure or suction wind case. This case places more loading on an end wall than does a pressure load. Another main difference is that Accu-Steel uses pipe not tubing in the door pockets. The last main comparison is that Accu-Steel uses almost twice as many pipe than the competition uses tubing. More features that you will find on an Accu-Steel Gather Door that is that track is recessed and the pipe run past the door opening. This makes an Accu-Steel Gather Door the most weather tight Gather Door on the market. Accu-Steel Gather Doors work great on all types of buildings, especially salt domes, and can be installed to be let down from the top or raised from the bottom for ventilation in livestock buildings.
23. Do you have someone who will install an Accu-Steel Cover Building?
Yes we do. Accu-Steel has made a commitment to become a full service center for the design, manufacture, and installation of our Cover Buildings. When you hire Accu-Steel to install your Cover Building you know it is being built with Accu-Steel employees. Accu-Steel employees bring years of construction experience to your job site. Jobsite Safety and Customer Satisfaction are top priorities on Accu-Steel Cover Building installations; our name is on your building.
24. What is a Rub Rail and what does it do?
Accu-Steel has developed a Rub Rail as part of the unique features only found on an Accu-Steel Cover Building. The Rub Rail is a building purlin placed on the outside of the base plate of the truss rafter. The Rub Rail provides a smooth consistent stand off for the cover in wall mount applications. Other building suppliers use strips of lumber instead of steel for a rub rail. The lumber does not allow the cover to be readjusted, and does not provide any structural support to the building. This is a great example of the competition recognizing a need, but unable to solve the problem.
25. What are the little things that set Accu-Steel apart from other building suppliers?

Accu-Steel cold rolls the square tube cords in the truss rafters before welding. This allows Accu-Steel rafters to transfer the building loading into the next section as they were designed with computer-aided software. Some competitors press their rafter, which builds up internal stress that can adversely affect the quality of the truss.

Accu-Steel uses an inline rafter connection with structural A-325 fasteners as required by engineering codes. Our competition uses regular bolts that may not handle the design loads. Accu-Steel takes supplying Cover Buildings very seriously, corners are not cut in design, production, or installation.

Last and most important are the people that work at Accu-Steel; employees at Accu-Steel make the difference and it shows everyday in every building that is produced. Our product is 100% manufactured in the United States & is a proud product of Iowa.
